The Lavender Footlights Festival is presented by Living Arts Trust, a non-profit
organization dedicated to nurturing, supporting, developing and presenting new arts
and cultural work by minority voices.
The Lavender Footlights Festival is sponsored by the Miami Science Museum,
Express Gay News, 411Magazine, The Angler's Boutique Resort and Green Gable's

The Lavender Footlights Festival is seeking submissions
for the Seventh Annual Lavender Footlights Festival to
be held in Miami on February 28th – March 2nd, 2009.

Past years have included pieces by noted playwrights such as Ricky J. Martinez, Stuart Meltzer,
Hal Corey, Michael McKeever, Claudia Allen and Tony nominated playwright Douglas Carter
Beane. The festival has also included many works by emerging writers. The plays are staged
as readings and are directed and presented by the best of South Florida theatre actors and
directors.
The Lavender Footlights Festival is dedicated to providing a voice and a venue for Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual, Transgender and Queer plays and supporting the work of emerging playwrights,
directors and actors.
Eligibility
Multiple submissions ARE accepted (maximum of 3).
Submissions cannot have been produced in Florida.
Musicals may be submitted with accompanying CD of score.
Bi-lingual scripts are welcomed.
Plays must be Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer in nature and should be of
immediate importance and/or interest to the LGBTQ community.
Areas of special interest are:
• Plays that support sexual and cultural diversity
• Plays that address Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender issues & themes
• Plays that address Latino/Caribbean issues & themes.
• Plays that deal with issues not commonly dealt with in LGBTQ theater
• Plays dealing with controversial issues from a unique viewpoint
Guidelines:
Each submission should include the following:
• Cover letter with return address and contact information, including a statement that piece
has not been previously produced in Florida.
• 1 copy of the script to be read
• 1-page synopsis of play (for full length plays only)
